"The feelings are mutual"
I was thinking for a while on what
should be written in this space. Various subjects flashed across my
mind.
Life, Technology, Philosophy,
People ....But thoughts failed to converge. After much pondering, I got
something .... something that encompasses Technology, Life, Emotions.
Last Friday, I was fortunate enough
to attend a thesis defense of Ajay Menon, one of my friends in
Mechanical Engineering @UTA. There was nothing new; of course he did a
very good job.
Towards the closing moments of his
defence, he profusely thanked his Professor for all his support,
described how he enjoyed the time with him, in a way, almost suggesting
that the professor is a great man.
After hearing all those monotonous
words from the presenter, the professor smiled and said “The feelings
are mutual”.
It took a couple of minutes to
digest the significance of those elegant words. Those words are elegant
and powerful in their simplicity.
It is more effective than a five
hour long speech of appreciation. I am sure they had innumerable
sleepless nights working together for innovative ideas to make existing
technology richer and meaningful. Those words conceive technology,
empathy, hard work, perseverance and above all an open mind to accept
other’s hard work.
I would consider these words as the
answer to all 'self important' persons who claim each and everything as
their achievement and ability; afraid of helping others because of
loosing their knowledge.
Remember, Appreciation is something
to be heard and not to be spoken by one.
There are numerous presentations
all over the world but personal bonding like this are far and few.
All the best Ajay !!! |
