What is vivisection?

Vivisection means "to cut while still alive", although today it is more commonly known in general as experimenting on animals.  The organization Uncaged Campaigns provides a list of animals that were victims of vivisection and experimentation in 2001.  The list includes deer, fish, tamarin and marmoset monkeys, goats, cattle, sheep, beagle dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, pigs, horses, donkeys, and even reptiles and amphibians.  If you visit the site, Uncaged Campaigns has actually put together an estimated list for number of animals killed in laboratories.
