I was born in 1931 in Forest City, Arkansas which is near Little Rock to Leola Scott and Kim Lamb. I moved to St. Louis when I was three but spent some summers on my grandfather's farm. He grew cotton and corn and pecans. One memory I have there was from one of the war times. We were fighting the Japaneese and there were Japaneese prisoners that the government was keeping. For some reason my grandfather was not paying workers to come work his land that year but the government brought those prisoners to work the land. I wouldn't understand what they were saying but they were always nice to me. I used to pump the water from a well for their water breaks every afternoon.

I didn't work many jobs as an adult but I did work as a waitress and in some hotels. I remember meeting Jackie Robinson and Campanella and Dinah Washington. Jackie Robinson was very nice and he was a good tipper. I remember working in another restaurant-a steak house. I thought is was sad when they wouldn't let the workers take home the extra food. Instead they would through it in bags and farmers would buy it for their pigs. Most of the people were poor and could have used that food.
Because I had my children at such a young age I never went out that much, but I remember going to East St. Louis once and seeing Ike and Tina Turner before they were famous and when they still looked like regular country people.
Things were not alwyas easy for me or my family but I always tried to have laughter in my home.
